30 years of the Carnival of Cultures! This year, Germany’s largest multicultural festival is celebrating an anniversary that we are particularly looking forward to! After all, Calaca e.V. is one of the few groups that has taken part in the Carnival of Cultures street parade right from the start. On Whit Sunday, we’ll be marching in support of a colourful Berlin, and in support of diversity and variety!

The “Fiesta de Día de Muertos” is a joyful celebration in memory of our departed loved ones. According to pre-Hispanic beliefs, they return during this time to visit the living. We make all the preparations for a successful reunion: an altar with photographs and mementoes, delicious food and drink, music and dancing.

Theatre
Seit 1995 verbindet Calaca Performance, Installation und Partizipation. Ausgangspunkt war das Since 1995, Calaca has been combining performance, installation and participatory art. It began with the Mexican Day of the Dead; today, its work encompasses theatre, performance art, workshops and installations exploring migration, human rights, remembrance and cultural diversity.

Accompanied by trumpets, violins, the vihuela and the guitarrón, the musicians of Mariachi Internacional El Dorado perform classics from the Mexican musical tradition, melting hearts as they go. Other bands and DJs also collaborate with Calaca e.V., showcasing the diversity of Latin American musical traditions.
